New Laser to Detect Skin Cancer Early

If there is one body organ that has to bear the brunt of environmental pollutants and toxins and damage from sun exposure, it would have to be the skin. It is small wonder then that the malaise of skin cancers is a rising one in the world. A small new laser device to detect skin cancer early however, could hold out home for many.

skin cancerThis new laser will be able to detect and diagnose lesions relating to melanoma much earlier than conventional screening procedures and more easily as well.

The laser can tell apart cancerous tissue and healthy skin, without having to go under the excision and biopsy that is currently required to obtain a diagnosis.

Current screening for skin cancer can mean unnecessary surgical procedures, which may not even be wholly conclusive in the end.

Dr. Vijay Trisal, assistant professor of surgical oncology at the City of Hope Cancer Center in Duarte, California has lauded the recent development saying that biopsies are not always able to offer clear results.

Further when a hundred biopsies are performed, one case of malignancy may be detected, which suggests that the other 99 were needlessly performed. So the new laser may not only result in early detection but may also reduce numbers of needless biopsies.

Hair Removal Procedures Best in Winter

Skin care experts are of the view that if any hair removal procedures are to be performed they are best done in winter. Laser hair removal is recommended in winter because strong sun block is required to be used on the area of skin from which hair is to be removed.

laser hair removalSo if you want to be beach ready and smooth skinned in time for summer, winter is a good time to actually undergo the hair removal procedures.

It is important to protect the skin from sun exposure either by use of sun blocks or by covering with protective clothing.

This can be inconvenient to do if the laser hair removal treatment was required to be performed on the facial skin area and it is this facial area hair removal that could be most significant to a lot of women – alterations in self confidence are noted in many who undergo the treatment for facial hair removal.

While one’s skin color is largely irrelevant to the success or failure of the procedure, there are certain hair colors that are less responsive to laser hair removal techniques – blond, gray, or red hair, may not meet with as much success.

Honey 2-in-1 cleanser and lotion: Combine 1 tbsp honey and 2 tbsp warm milk for your cleanser. Increase the amount of both appropriately if you want to make lotion. Massage the mixture gently on your face, neck, arms, and legs. Rinse off after 5 minutes.

Almond milk moisturizer: Whip together 2 tbsp almond meal with 10 fl. oz. water. Strain the concoction through cheesecloth to make it silkier and smoother. Apply gently on the face and wipe off with a soft cloth or tissue paper.

Violet and almond lotion: Blend together 4 tbsp almond meal and 5 fl. oz water for 2-3 minutes. Prepare a non-metal pan and pour the mixture into it. Add 25 flowers of violet and heat for around 5 minutes. Allow it to cool and then strain and pour in a bottle. Use daily.

Benefits of Low Level Laser Energy

Over the years the benefits of low energy laser therapy have become more prominent. Low energy laser therapy has been used by medical practitioners for pain management and recently by cosmetic surgeons to emulsify adipose fat before liposuction with FDA clearance. The potential benefit of this treatment is body contouring without surgery. Problem areas or excess pockets of fat can be targeted, however the most commonly treated areas are the stomach, hips, flanks, and thighs. In clinical trials patients have averaged 4.5 inches combined lost from their stomach, hips, and thighs.  These results do vary and no guarantee is implied or suggested that desired results will be achieved.

How Zerona Treatments Work

This treatment is the application of a  patented 635 nm low energy laser, which has been shown through extensive research to cause  the fat within the adipocyte (fat cell) to leave the cell and accumulate in the interstitial space around the cells. The Zerona laser used for this treatment has no thermal effect on tissue. Instead, the non-invasive laser helps the body absorb fat by creating a micro pore in the fat cell wall allowing the “fat” components to seep into the interstitial space. This excess fat is then removed naturally by the body’s  lymphatic system and subsequently excreted without the negative side effects and downtime associated with more invasive procedures such as liposuction. This therapy has been tested in several institutional review board approved studies in a double blind; placebo controlled fashion and found to be generally effective.

Dry Skin Care Tips

If you have been on skiing holidays before, you must have noticed how good the cold, dry air and the exercise are for you. There’s something that’s good about dry air, when it comes to your skin. Bacteria cannot grow in dry air, and most germs are unable to function well if there is not enough moisture in the air. Since it is a fact that skin irritations are almost always caused by bacteria, dry air has a soothing effect on the skin because it stops the growth of bacteria.

Exercise, on the other hand, exposes your skin to air and light, and this makes your skin less moist. Again, without moisture, bacteria cannot grow, and hence, your skin irritation goes away. So, exercise and dry air together can be very pleasant with a skin irritation.

Dry climate also has another utility. It lets your blood coagulate quickly, so that if there is any bleeding or inflammation, you quickly get coagulated blood with fewer chances of infection at the wound.

This can be very soothing for skin irritations, because bleeding wounds can quickly become pus-filled and cause trouble. Dry air prevents this from happening.

So, when you are on holidays, try and take in that dry air on your skin as much as possible. You will have fewer infections, fewer irritations and a much more soothing effect on your skin. Add to that the amount of extra exercise you naturally undergo during holidays, especially sports holidays, and you will come home with a much better, less irritating skin, and better humor.

Skin Care Tips On Vacation

Everybody loves to go on vacation. Whether you happen to be into sun and sand, or slopes and snow boards, a little time away from all the boring yet stressful parts of your life can be just the rejuvenation you need, to get back to things energized and ready to build a better life. But, of course, even on vacation, you still have some responsibilities. While no one wants to think of serious chapping, let alone melanoma skin cancer, these are both potential hazards, which can be magnified by the weather conditions you may encounter while you are on vacation. So whether you happen to be going on cruises or skiing on the Alps, you may want to take heed of the following tips for on the go skin care.

Pack some dry skin lotion. While many people do not think of this, dry skin can make your entire vacation less comfortable overall. A little lotion applied liberally can make you feel a lot better… and if you happen to be on the beach and on the prowl, it can also help you to look better for the opposite sex.

Also pack the sun screen. Sun screen of at least SPF (Sun Protection Factor) 30 is extremely useful for keeping your skin from developing all sorts of cancerous growths over time. Just apply it half an hour before you plan to go out into the Sun, and the effects will become noticeable overtime. While not everyone who get a lot of sun get cancer, many people develop hard, leathery skin as they grow older – and a great deal of the reason for this is contained in their level of unprotected Sun exposure. Also keep in mind that the Sun’s radiation is only slightly lessened, even by heavy cloud cover. Just because the weather is cold, does not mean you should abandon the use of Sun screen.
